CLUB HISTORY
The Holiday Golf Group began in 1985 by five friends Edward Kimble, Arthur Hambric, George Traylor, Carl McCane and Rivers Gee. Needless to say they were not single digit players but had to truly love the game and getting together at the 19th hole. Because Ed, George and Art worked for the US Postal service they would invite other friends to join them on the holidays which mostly fell on Mondays.
Some of the early friends to play with them were J.D. Grady, Robert and Joyce Mack, Lorenzo and Marilyn Briscoe, Gwen McCane, Denise Kimble, Ivary Morrison, Joe Jacobs, Charlie Scott, Herb Rachel. By 1988 the group had grown enough to have tournaments. After each tournament they would gather at the home of one of the members to fellowship and present awards. That tradition continues to this day. Our first tournament was held on Labor Day 1988 at Green Tree Golf Course, Vacaville, CA and the fellowship was held at the home of Edward and Denise Kimble in Suisun City, CA.
It was at our first family gathering we decided to give back to our youth and other charitable groups from the funds raised at our tournaments. We have six tournaments a year Dr. Martin Luther King, Memorial Day Club Championship, Father's Day, 4th July Cajun Feast, Labor Day and Club Invitational.
Over the years the HGG has given out numerous scholarships to college bound students and have given financial support to local non-profit groups throughout the greater Oakland/San Francisco bay area.
Because of our long standing relationship with the Northern California Golf Association (NCGA) three of our members Leonard "Googie" Kirtley, Marilyn Briscoe, and Ron Everette achieved the distinct honor of becoming a Blue Coat officer of the NCGA.
The first Father's Day tournament was held at the Lake Chabot GC in Oakland, CA in 1988 and the fellowship held at the home of Ivary and Rose Morrison in Oakland, CA. That tradition was carried on by Lorenzo and Marilyn Briscoe until their move out of state to Arkansas. Harold and Janice Thomas of Oakland, CA continued the Father's Day tradition. The Father's Day tournament is still held each year at the Lake Chabot GC. Our first 4th July Cajun Feast was held at the Paradise Valley GC in Fairfield, CA in 1991 and the fellowship is still being held at the home of Edward and Denise Kimble in Suisun City, CA. Our first Labor Day tournament was held at the Riverside GC in San Jose, CA in 1994 and the fellowship was held at the home of Joe and Jackie Moore in San Jose, CA and that tradition is being carried on by Jim and Yvette Williams in Antioch, CA.
